The Great Story Adventure at The Storybarn

Start date:

The Storybarn at Calderstones is an interactive story-centre for young people to explore, share and discover their love of books. Join us with your class for The Great Story Adventure, where you will enter a thrilling world full of imagination, adventure and fascinating historical tales, which will spark a lifelong love of books, reading and discovery.

Your day with us will include an interactive trail, led by our Storyhunters, to discover some of the park’s important historical features including our beautiful woodlands, Sensory Gardens and the Allerton Oak, a 1000-year-old tree.

We’ll pause for engaging Shared Reading sessions where we’ll read aloud together, as well as a range of exciting activities that bring the stunning surroundings to life. Upbeat, energetic and lots of fun, our trails will give your class the chance to explore South Liverpool’s fascinating heritage.

With our Storyhunters leading the way, your class will travel back in time at our heritage exhibition in the Calderstones mansion house, getting up close with the Stone Age Calder Stones that gave the Park its name. Together, we’ll explore the elaborately-carved symbols on their surface.

You’ll also get to discover the wonders of The Storybarn itself, in a 90-minute workshop filled with imaginative adventures. In a bespoke space filled with objects to inspire and hundreds of books to read, your class will experience Shared Reading, book talk, story building, crafts and imaginative play, even creating your own tale to take back to the classroom with you!
