Demo Tapes: free protest music project for ages 13-18

Start date:

Got a song to sing? Beats to drop? A cause to rant about?! Then get involved with Demo Tapes – a 12-week project for 13 – 18 yr-olds who want to remix, sample and be inspired by protest songs of the past to make music about the issues of today.

You will work with leading musicians, lyricists & electronic music experts to create your own tracks & lyrics in response to protest songs from the North West Sound Archive – whether you’re into hip hop, grime, folk, dub or anything in between!

Workshops will happen online to begin with, moving to in-person from June if it is safe to do so. At the end of the project you will have the chance to perform your work in Manchester and Liverpool alongside young people from Brighter Sounds (Manchester) and More Music (Morecambe).

No computer, music software or instrumental skill necessary. We can provide devices & data to help access online sessions. You may use this course to gain a nationally accredited Bronze Arts Award.

Workshops: Mondays 10th, 17th & 24th May, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th June, 5th July.

Performances: Monday 12th July (Liverpool), Tues 13th July (Manchester)

Times: 5.30 – 7.30pm

Location: Zoom (May), Central Liverpool venue (TBC – June onward)

Cost: Free!
