This programme targeted a group of Key Stage 3 students at Broughton Hall, who were benefiting from sponsored music lessons from Resonate Music Hub. To support their transition into Key Stage 4 and 5, the school worked with Sense of Sound and local musicians to develop a mentoring programme. This aimed to raise students’ awareness of opportunities to work in the music industry as well as continue their enjoyment of music socially and culturally.
The four artists who visited the school to mentor the students were:
- Jennifer John, Vocalist, Sense of Sound
- Hilary Browning, Cellist, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
- James Dodd, freelance drummer and guitarist
- Paul Leonard, freelance saxophonist
The musicians provided guidance and advice to 30 students about musical career pathways as well as feedback to improve their performance skills. The students played a range of instruments including voice, violin, bass guitar, guitar, piano, drums, flute and saxophone. They performed a concert to an audience of almost 700 students and 30 students from across all years are. The professional musicians also performed.
One Year 13 student, supported by Jennifer John, gained an audition for
continued study when she leaves Broughton Hall.
